What We Do

Members of the organization enjoy growing grapes, making wine, and drinking wine. The French Broad Vignerons (FBV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that promotes viticulture as a tool for economic development in the region of western North Carolina. Our mission is to help develop the viticulture industry through promotion of grape growing, wine/cider/mead making, and training in the art of wine evaluation. Our educational and social activities are guided by our 9 Member Board of Directors. (see our Current Leadership page) The benefits of membership include:
  • Hang out with other winemakers and grape growers
  • Learn how to grow grapes
  • Learn how to make wine
  • Learn how to evaluate/judge wines
  • Social media buffs can watch our website and Facebook page and join in the conversation about wine making and grape-growing
  • Receive wine evaluation/judge training
  • Expand your contact base by participating in our social activities and educational events
  • Members receive a 10% discount on all workshops/class at the Mountain Grape School
  • Members receive a 10% discount for purchases at Asheville Brewers Supply (they have wine-making supplies too!)
  • Opportunities to develop leadership/marketing/public relations skills
Lastly we advocate for our members and region:
  • Sponsoring and promoting tours to wineries/meaderies/cideries
  • Advocating for all aspects of wine tourism in the region
  • Conducting wine competition to highlight the quality of North Carolina wines
  • Conducting wine competition for the Best of the Appalachian seal (BOTA)
  • Benchmark judging to compare our best North Carolina wines against comparable wines from California and European wineries
